Do Not Be Proud

Proverbs 16:18 (AMP)

“Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Christ modeled a life for the believer that is not so much found in the world—the life of humility, without an iota of pride. One of the few persons God honors is a man of humility, one who is not proud. A proud man is an enemy of God. A proud man has no portion with God. The Bible encourages believers to be humble and stay humble. A believer who has encountered the love of God and realized how unworthy we were of His love before He saved us will maintain a humble spirit.

A proud person is quick to judge and look condescendingly at people. As children of God, we should lift people with our words and actions. The love of God in us should make us shun all forms of pride and rudeness. If we walk in love, it’ll show in our vocabulary to our brethren. A man of love speaks honourable words to his brother. An honourable man honours people. A man of respect respects people. A humble man embodies honour and respect.

Choose humility over pride. Even if a proud man doesn’t have an enemy, God is always an enemy to the proud one. Refuse to be an enemy of God and choose friendship with Him. The Bible admonishes us that our word be seasoned with grace. Don’t bully with your words, don’t attack with your words, don’t disrespect boundaries, and don’t provoke with your words. Treat others with honour and respect as you also want to be treated.

Confession: By the Spirit of Christ in me, whatever my status is, I live humbly in the presence of God and of the brethren.
