“Jesus said to him, “Get up; pick up your pallet and walk.” – John 5:8 (AMP)
There are many instances in the Scripture where all that Jesus needed to do for a miracle to be performed in someone’s life is just a pronouncement from His mouth and it would happen according to His will, and the story of this man healed at the pool of Bethesda is no different. However, there are things to note from this man and his encounter with Jesus. One of the lies told by devils is that miracles must always be dramatic for it to be authentic.
This invalid man had been sick for thirty-eight years and he was at this pool waiting to enter in first after the water had been stirred by an angel. Since this is what he’d always known, he couldn’t easily come to believe that there could be another and better way for him to be healed. On a blessed day for him, Jesus saw him lying there and he was asked a simple question,
“Do you want to get well?” The invalid answered, “Sir, I have no one to put me in the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am coming [to get into it myself], someone else steps down ahead of me.” (cf. John 5:6-7)
His response shows the response of many believers today. All he needed to say was YES and he would be made whole but instead, he started to complain about his limitations. And this right there is the reason many have not yet experienced miracles from the Lord. When the Lord asks them what they want, the only logical thing they say is to complain of their present situation and not bother to pay attention.
Thank God for His mercies, Jesus didn’t give a response to his tales and woes but He made a declaration that changed his life forever – John 5:8 – “Jesus said to him, “Get up; pick up your pallet and walk.” That was the only declaration that he needed to be made whole every other thing he was saying were only a tale of his woes.
Dear believer, know how to align your thoughts and actions to the will of God. Don’t be full of complaints and worries about what is not working in your life but look up to Jesus who is able to make all grace abound unto you and work mightily in you. There are testimonies you delay by constantly living in worry. Stay tuned with God’s will for you and see His power manifest in your life.
Reflections: Complaints and worries have never got the job done, you must stop these and focus on Jesus in faith and hope of that which He is able to do.
