“Elisha said, “At this season next year, you will embrace a son.” She said, “No, my lord. O man of God, do not lie to your maidservant.” But the woman conceived and gave birth to a son at that season the next year, just as Elisha had said to her.” – 2 Kings 4:16-17 (AMP)

The story of the Shunamite woman, is a story of profound faith in God and in His power. But there are lessons for believers to learn from her. For there to be a reaction, there must be an action. The Shunamite woman took care of Prophet Elisha whenever he passes her city. Her actions made the servant of God to ask her what she needs, but she made no request. She said she was satisfied. So many believers are like her. We’ve been given a blank cheque by God after we’ve prayed, fasted and asked for a miracle, yet, we won’t know what to ask for. Sometimes, even in our prayers, we don’t know what to ask, or we expect that God should have known what we need, so we don’t need to say it.

Yes, God knows our needs, He knows everything about us, even more than us. Even with these, He expects us to ask, just like Jesus said in Matthew 7:7. He said we should ask and it shall be given unto us. The key word there is “ASK”. Believing is good, believing in God’s power and His ability to do anything and everything but we must ask.

In the latter verses of our anchor text, the Shunamite woman, got her heart desire, a son. But then, he died and her next actions are what most people won’t do. The strength of faith is revealed, even when things or situations aren’t working the way we expect it to happen. The strength to continue believing even when it looks like nothing is going to work out anymore.

The Shunamite woman, when her son died, still held on. When being asked by people about her situation, her reply was “it is well” (2 Kings 19: 29). Until she got to the Prophet, she never stopped saying, it is well. That strength to keep believing in the power of miracles.

As believers, asides believing in miracles momentarily, we need to keep on believing in miracles even when situations are tough, challenges are hard, everything seems not to be working, we still believe. The strength. That itself, is a strength that can push us through difficult times.

Believing in miracles is not just words but actions, faith and zeal.

Reflection: It is not enough to believe in miracles, but we have to believe in Him, who is able to perform the miracles, exceeding and far beyond our human thinking and expectations.

Confession: My heart is rightly positioned to receive miracles from the Lord. I possess all that God has promised me. My heart desires are met. For me, miracles are real and they are manifested in my life daily.
