“Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, because she was unable to conceive children; and the Lord granted his prayer and Rebekah his wife conceived [twins].” – Genesis 25:21 (AMP)

The way Isaac got a wife was nothing short of divine ordering of steps and it was evidently God’s will for Isaac and Rebekah to be married. Abraham had instructed Eliezer of Damascus, the eldest servant of his household to go to Padan-aram to pick a wide for Isaac who was of marriageable age. And since it happened this way, one would have thought that things should go smoothly in building the home.

The joy of every couple is to give birth to their own children when they plan to without having any delay but sometimes, it happens there is delay. However, Rebekah didn’t just have a delay in childbirth, the Bible says she was unable to conceive children, in other words, she was barren. This means it was not just a delay, it was an inability to conceive, no matter what medicine she used or what methods she adopted. How then did she give birth to twins?

Isaac, the husband, PRAYED. Bear in mind that God already had a covenant with Abraham even before Isaac came that nation and kings will come from him but how would this covenant continue in fulfillment if Isaac and Rebekah lived without a child that would carry on the lineage. Isaac didn’t just keep quiet about the situation and just assume that’s how life should be for him and his wife, he prayed. And God heard and her womb was made productive again. Life came forth from a barren womb.

This time around Isaac didn’t choose an alternative of getting another woman to give him children, he turned to God in prayer to orchestrate the miracle he needed. Prayer changes things and bring life to dead situations. Prayer is a proof that you believe in God to bring light and help to an helpless situation. Do you truly desire a miracle? You must be willing to pray and truly believe that God would answer. Miracles happen when we pray. Don’t complain, pray. Don’t worry, pray. Don’t be lost in thoughts, pray. God hears and He answers.

Reflections: Checking my life, which is more convenient for me, to pray or to worry? Which have I done more in the past months concerning that difficult situation?

Confession: I believe in God and I trust Him to answer me when I call to Him in prayers. I will pray and not allow worry take over my heart. For me, miracles are real and they are manifested in my life daily.
