IN THE NAME OF JESUS (1)

“And I will do whatever you ask in My name [as My representative], this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified and celebrated in the Son.” – John 14:13 (AMP)

Jesus taught His disciples a whole lot about prayer and asking what they want and desire from God and this He did with repeated assurances that God would answer whatever thing they ask in His name. There is power in the name of Jesus. There is no other name in heaven and on earth that is bestowed with so much power to make things happen. In every place where Christians pray, the name of Jesus is somewhat used to end the prayers to show in whose name they’ve prayed.

But the question that stays on the lips of many who haven’t received what they asked even after praying in the name of Jesus as He instructed is that, “Why is the name not working for them as expected to give them access to answered prayers?” One of the things you need to do is to pay attention to Jesus’ words in John 14:13-14 and the context of this instruction.

Praying in the name of Jesus points to your allegiance to the person of Jesus. Many people pray in the name of Jesus but they are not submitted to the Person and they expect answers to their prayers. The text says anything you ask the Father in His name as His REPRESENTATIVE. So, the question is, “Are you truly Christ’s representative?” What does it mean to be Christ’s representative? It means doing what He wants and having His desires become your desires as well.

You cannot live a life outside of the will of God and expect Him to grant your desires. If you do not live as though Christ is your Lord, that is, living in perpetual submission to Him, the name may not work for you as you literally think. There is power in the name of Jesus truly but this power becomes tangible and very evident in the lives of those who live as His disciples indeed. Do you live as Christ’s disciple’s indeed?

Reflection: Whose representative am I? Does my life reflect my submission to the Lordship of Jesus?

Confession: The hand of the Lord is upon me and my life is ordered by His Spirit. I am not stranded nor do I want anything good.
