Colossians 2:14-15:
“Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us)…disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross].” (AMPC)
For generations, the people believed the stronghold was immovable. It sat quietly at the edge of the city’s story, never mentioned openly, never challenged directly. Everyone knew its influence even if no one could explain it. Each time any reform began, resistance always rose. Each time truth gained ground, confusion followed and that made many conclude that the land was ancient, unchangeable, and beyond redemption.
Then news spread of a confrontation that did not look like victory at all. The One sent to restore order did not arrive with armies or political backing. He was betrayed, publicly humiliated, stripped of honour, and executed in shame. Darkness celebrated quietly, and it was certain that it had secured its hold on the land. But something shifted beneath the surface. The powers that had ruled unseen felt their authority fracture. The cross they thought was defeat became exposure. The grave they assumed would silence Him became a doorway. When He rose, it was not merely a miracle but a declaration. Governance had already changed.
The cross of Christ was not only the place of forgiveness; it was the site of confrontation. The Bible says that Jesus disarmed principalities and powers, making a public spectacle of them and triumphing over them through the cross. What appeared as weakness was the greatest assertion of authority.
Territorial powers continue to operate only where their defeat is not enforced. They rely on ignorance, fear, and compromise to sustain influence. Christ did not negotiate with darkness; He simply stripped it of legal right. His resurrection announced a new order, where authority flows from obedience and alignment with God’s will.
For the disciple, this truth changes everything. We do not pray from desperation but victory. We do not confront darkness hoping it will retreat; we stand knowing it has already been judged. When priesthood aligns with Christ’s finished work, territorial resistance weakens and transformation becomes possible.
Confession: I stand in the finished work of Christ. Every power resisting God’s purpose in my territory has been disarmed. I do not contend for victory; I enforce Christ’s triumph through obedience, prayer, and truth. Fear has no hold on me, and darkness has no legal authority over my assignment, in Jesus’ name.
