Philippians 2:5 (AMPC)
“Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility].”
Over the years, many definitions have been given to the meaning of the word ‘Christian’; however, one definition that perfectly encapsulates and explains who a Christian is and should be is that ‘a Christian is one who has the same mind, attitude and purpose as Christ.’ Being a Christian means being Christ-like, and that means being an embodiment of the kind of life Christ lived in all expressions.
In our days, it’s as though being called a Christian is something fashionable and to be puffed up by. One who is called a Christian without the substance of Christ in lifestyle, attitude, mind, and purpose is not truly a Christian. Being able to answer to this name means that such a person has been a disciple of Christ and has intentionally submitted himself under the yoke of discipleship.
Dear Believer, you need to ask yourself reflectively and sincerely, whose mind do you possess? There are many believers whose purpose in life and their minds have nothing in common with Christ’s. The only reason you can and should be called a Christian is that you give the world around you the experience of the person of Christ while He was on earth.
You do not have to be fully God and fully man for this to be; you only have to learn how Christ lived His life, and by the empowerment of His Spirit, you can do the same. Do not be a Christian who cannot be traced to Christ. The world knows those who truly live like Christ and those who don’t. Before you boast of your Christian heritage, are you of the same mind, attitude, lifestyle, and purpose as Christ?
Confession: I have the mind of Christ, and I conform to Him in purpose, lifestyle, and attitude.
