“If you remain in Me and My words remain in you [that is, if we are vitally united and My message lives in your heart], ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.” – John 15:7 (AMP)
In Matthew 6:9ff, while Jesus was teaching His disciples how to pray, He said, “Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Once of the concept that many Christians ask questions about is that of the will of God. Understanding what the will of God for you is is very crucial and important to the prayers you say and answers you receive.
Apostle John says, “This is the [remarkable degree of] confidence which we [as believers are entitled to] have before Him: that if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us.” (1 John 5:14, AMP)
This passage shows a very important reason why many prayers are not answered or why their answers are delayed. Understanding the will of God will aid effective prayers that birth results. Every Christian is supposed to know and understand, to a good degree, the will of God for them. Anytime you pray according to the will of God, it becomes impossible for the enemy to hinder your prayers or for the answers to be unnecessarily delayed.
But how do you know the will of God? You know the will of God by allowing the Word of God in your heart. You cannot be a Christian and be a stranger to the Word of God. You have to understand that before you can grasp what the Holy Spirit says to you from within, you have to be well familiar and grounded in the what the Lord is saying through His written Word.
You cannot be a believer who is weak in the place of studying God’s Word but places priority on prayers. What gives power and potency to your prayers is not how loud you shout or how many hours you but how aligned you with the plans and purposes of God in your prayers. You must know what the will of God is and even if you do not know when you start to pray, because you’ve been conversant with Holy Spirit and the Word, you begin to receive an understanding of God’s will on what to pray for or about.
People who pray blindly without a knowledge of God’s will almost always waste their time in God’s presence and they may, at the end, judge God to be wicked. Why God won’t answer prayers outside of His will is that if He does, it endangers His eternal plans and purposes. So what you must do is to seek the will of God, know it and pray according to it.
Action Point: Seek to know the will of God concerning the matter you are praying about. Do that today and always.
Confession: By the mercies of God, I understand what His will for me and I am able to walk accordingly. I am constantly joined to Christ and I am nourished through Him.
