WORSHIP – MAN’S WHOLE ESSENCE (4)

O give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the people. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonderful acts and devoutly praise them. Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those who seek and require the Lord [as their most essential need] rejoice.” – Psalm 105:1-3 (AMP)

God is powerful and greater than any god or power in any land for of Him, all things exist and without Him nothing exists, and this is one reason man must worship Him. But the question is, what exactly is worship? This is a question that many people who say they worship the Lord don’t have an accurate answer to. And until this question is accurately answered, whatever we do that is tagged as worship will not be acceptable.

Many have defined worship to mean when you sing solemn songs with heart-touching, tears-inducing lyrics. Many even differentiate between songs of praise and songs of worship. Some others term worship as when you sing or give praise to God with words. However it is defined by people of different perspectives to it, worship transcends all these.

Worship is a lifestyle. Worship means to reverence and honour and hallow the name of God. And by this, it is evident that it goes beyond just singing. A man may sing songs of honour unto God, and yet he is not worshipping God. It is not worship until it is acceptable to God and it reflects in the life of the worshipper.

Truly, worship is first of all living for God daily; in speech, actions, thoughts and reactions, which sum up the character any man can possess. It is from a life that honours God that acceptable acts of worship can proceed from. So, the bigger question you should ask yourself is, how do I live? Does my lifestyle depict honour for and fear of God? We can sing songs unending, and yet what we are trying to do is not accomplished and so, what we must do is to check our lives and adjust where necessary.

Practical Application: Why do you go to church on Sunday? Is it to worship or to perform acts of worship? And how did you live during the week before Sunday? Did you live in a way that honours God?

Confession: I am a man/woman of God and I live to honour Him always. My life on each day of the week brings honour to God. I am a saint from Monday to Sunday. I perform acts of worship from a life that has been transformed by the Spirit of God.
