“For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made (His handiworks). So [men] are without excuse [altogether without any defense or justification], because when they knew and recognized Him as God, they did not honor and glorify Him as God or give Him thanks. But instead they became futile and godless in their thinking [with vain imaginings, foolish reasoning, and stupid speculations] and their senseless minds were darkened.” – Romans 1:20-21 (AMP)
Every human created has a tendency to worship something or someone greater than them. Man has always been filled with this desire and, sadly, this is one of the reasons men serve lifeless gods because it gives them a sense of their nature, which is to worship. With worship comes devotion and reverence thus, it is important to note that everyone alive is a worshipper of something or someone because this part of man is a vacuum that must be filled.
But in the beginning, it was not so. God created man this way for him to know that the whole essence of his existence is premise upon the power and person of a Deity which rules heaven and earth and this is the reason for the relationship God had with the first humans. In fellowship with Him, they worship and reverence Him. The desire has always been the same for man but because of sin and separation from the Only True God, the object changed.
God is the only One who is supposed to be man’s object of worship and it is destruction to have another which is not God as the object of worship. Sometimes, to fill this vacuum, man positions himself as the object of worship for this gives him a sense of satisfaction and worthiness from fellow humans, but the end is to have a sense of the divine. You have to know this in order to guide you from changing the object of worship which is supposed to be God to something or someone else unconsciously.
Dear Believer, let God remain your focus in worship. It is a sad experience going round in the Church today as many no longer worship God as He ought but they now worship self and everything that pleases it. You are not doing living right if your focus is not God and to please Him. This is the essence of the life you have. Be one who revers and fears God daily, for this is the true purpose of your existence.
Practical Application: During worship services, what or who is your focus? God or self? To delight God or to please yourself?
Confession: I am the light of the world, and I represent the Kingdom of God on earth. I live in honor and praise of God alone. My worship in every form is patterned after the heart of the One who deserves it all. I live not for myself but for Him who redeemed and saved me.
