“So he went and did in accordance with the word of the Lord; he went and lived by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he would drink from the brook.” – 1 Kings 17:5-6 (AMP)
The wickedness of the people of Israel had been great as their king, Ahab and his wife, made them sin against the Lord God. Prophet Elijah was one who vehemently stood against the sinfulness of the house of Ahab and he declared before Ahab that there shall be neither rain nor dew for three and a half years. What does mean? It means there would be famine and people won’t have crops to plant nor food to eat. And it was so.
Elijah too was affected by this famine but God had planned a means of survival for him for the years of famine. First, it was a bird God used to bring hot cake for him as he drank from the brook Cherith before it dried up. God is never limited in the provision of resources for His people. When you trust the Lord with all your heart and you live according to His will, He makes the impossible becomes possible. No one who obeys the Lord lacks basic means of survival. God provides even in difficult situations and you have to trust Him.
Putting your trust in a man will always bring disappointment because even if they do what you are asking, it will not always be like God would provide and they may come to brag about what they’ve one for you. In this passage, God showed again that He is the One who owns the cattle upon a thousand hills and He is in control of all He created. No situation is too difficult for God to handle. You have to believe in God to have this experience. You are not meant to be stranded.
Are you afraid that declaring God’s mind or living in righteousness might cause men to cut off means of provision from you? Don’t be afraid. The God, before Whom you stand will arise for you. He will take care of you and won’t allow you to be stranded. You must be willing to truly stand for Him. His miracles are readily available for those who make their stand for Him.
Reflections: Have I ever been in a situation where I had to stand for my faith despite knowing that I might be in want? Did I truly stand or did I compromise?
Confession: I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus called out of darkness into light. I am of God and I live for Him daily. For me, miracles are real and they are manifested in my life daily.
